Characterful place in an unpromising location, tucked in down the side of a 60’s ring road. Alehouse feel, some might call it a tatty jumble but I think it worked quite nicely. Clearly a number of rooms that were knocked-through many years ago but there’s enough of a separated feel left. There’s plenty of seating to be had on the salmon shade banquettes, and of note is the unusual tongue and groove arched wood ceiling. Friendly young barman (who I think was the owner) played the role of the old skool guv'nor, being the focal point of the pub and conducting conversation at the front of the bar. He showed me an old map of the area and pointed out the pub, which used to be densely packed-in around terraced houses (it is the only building now left of the old Kent Street). An afternoon opener, and plenty of punters meandered in during the first 30 mins who all knew each other creating a nice convivial atmosphere. Six cask on with a good range; Jolly Sailor Selby (NBSS 3.5) and Mobberley Onyx (4). Alongside some ciders, there were also some fresh pies behind the bar. I really enjoyed this one, a good combination of beer and people. GBG'22 listed and rightly so. 8.5

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Jacobs Well
Well-known alehouse with a fairly rustic bar, seating area and side room that looks the part (even if the surroundings certainly don't). Also has a few wooden benches out front, although these are rather dominated by the intrusive road infrastructure. As unusual, had a pretty good selection of real ales in a wide range of styles from six of the nine handpumps on this visit, but I went for the 'house' Sunny Day from Sunbeam (to match the weather). Four draught ciders from the local Grumpy John's also noted. That said, I just don't find this the friendliest establishment for some reason...

Traditional real ale boozer, close to the Interchange station and the heart of central Bradford but retaining an authentic feel. The front door leads to the tap room with a lounge off to the right side and a charming front snug to the left.Originally called Jacob's Well as depicted in the etched glass in the front door.
The tap room side of the servery has 6 handpumps drawing on my trip Abbeydale Deception (NBSS 4),Sunbeam Bright Day,Half Moon Dark Masquerade,Great Newsome Jen's Stout,Bingley Norr Draft and Autumn Bounty. That's an interesting mix of styles from mainly Locales and later on my visit I discovered a further three handpumps on the front snug side of the servery with two clipped with chalk writing which I failed to note.
Worth including on any real ale tour, there was an excellent soundtrack playing and the barman was really friendly.A great place to start or finish a crawl if arriving by train.
