The Bird in Hand in W14

Totally agree with all the comments below. Here at a bit after 7.30pm on a Thursday evening and the venue was full with diners. So essentially yes a restaurant with just some stools around a a U shaped bar in the back corner (that makes the place sound big - the place is pretty small so the bar takes up a good part of the venue). Tribute the solitary beer on hand pump still and four taps dispensing Guinness, Orchard Pig Reveller and two lagers. Not really one to head to for a beer that’s for sure if that’s all you are looking for. Rating is as a pub - no view on this place as a dining establishment.

The Boot Inn in Derby
A large backstreet pub, maybe originally two buildings, looking at the disparate windows, but opened out internally into one large space, with the bar against the back wall. This is the brewery tap for the onsite microbrewery of the same name. There were three of their own beers on the bar, and I tried all three and enjoyed them: Clod Hopper, Boot Bitter and IPA. (The other beers were from Littleover and from the former Heritage brewery at the brewing museum in Burton, now closed.) This pub is a pleasant walk across the bridge from Willington station, if the trains suit, or by bus V3 from Derby to Burton, which stops in the village approximately hourly.

It’s been over two months since my last cross-countryramble, and to say I was getting itchy feet would be an understatement.Incessant rain and waterlogged fields, both of which would have madecross-country walking perhaps not quite impossible, but certainly down rightmiserable, finally came to an end as the calendar changed into ....
